We turned up a little early and were seated in the waiting area by the friendly staff. They were really accommodating and let us change our table so that Max was on a couch side with me rather than on a chair on his own side. This normally results in him dropping things and losing concentration so to know they were flexible was great!
We knew we wanted starters so the boys shared some sticky bbq wings whilst me and Max dove into the bread platter. I loved the presentation and Max enjoyed dunking and buttering his bread. The boys said that the wings had just the right consistency of bbq to make it perfectly messy!
For the children's mains there is a great menu. You get to pick your own main and two sides from a really good list. Max was so excited as he could pick the exact things he loved to eat. He went for a beef burger, corn on the cob and jacket potato. There wasn't much in the way of presentation but that didn't stop him wolfing it down and saying he loved every bit.
For the adults both Scott and Joe opted for the paprika chicken and bbq ribs. We paid a bit extra to upgrade them from half racks to full racks and by the end of it they were stuffed. They loved the twist on the flavours and said it made a change from a normal ribs and chicken combo.
I went for the scampi and chips with mushy peas. I'm a tad obsessed with mushy peas and we don't eat much seafood at home so it's normally a go-to option for me. There was a great portion size and they even gave me a second pot of tartare sauce when I finished mine too soon.
When it came to desserts, Scott and Joe settled for ice cream as they hadn't got much room left to eat anything else. Me and Max on the other hand couldn't wait to try something on the menu. Max opted for the cookie cup, a bowl that was made out of a cookie with a scoop of ice cream and sprinkles all over. Max called it magic on a plate which is pretty apt!
I went for the chocolate fudge cake. I didn't expect it to be as big as what it was but it was gorgeous. Soft sponge and slick fudge icing that made me want to take the whole cake home! Unfortunately I couldn't finish it all, but Max took over and managed to clear my plate as well as his.
We really enjoyed our time at The Gateway. We had a great food with a great atmosphere and the staff made us feel really welcome. It was a great chance to catch up with my brother and have something to eat, it's also in a great spot that took us no time at all to find!
Thank you to Table Table for inviting us to try your menu. We would highly recommend visiting your local one and enjoying the fantastic food they have on offer.
